Give Me Five

Summer means classroom fever for me! Now that I have completed my first year of teaching, I have a whole bunch of ideas for my classroom. So I am starting to make posters, decorations, and so on for my classroom. Started by making a "Give Me Five" poster.

May Day fun!

May Day isn't fun without surprising someone you are thankful for with flowers! This May Day my class decided to make a homemade flower pot and delivered it to our office staff while they were at lunch! The kids had so much fun making the flowers and sneaking in to leave it on their desk. Happy May Day!!

Mother's Day Fun!

This year my students have worked so hard to develop their writing skills. So for Mother's Day we decided to put our skills to work! Each student made a cute little flower pot for their mom! Other then the dry time for the paint they didn't take very long to make and we were able to make them with supplies we had in our classroom.

Materials: All you need to make these adorable gifts is a big piece of construction paper, a small piece of paper, markers, and paint. (And of course the always necessary kindergarten supplies-glue and scissors :) )

Steps:
1. Have the students cut out flower pots (out of the smaller paper) and glue it to the big construction paper. (I had the flower pot traced so all they students had to do was cut it out)
2. Write on the pot with marker, "I love my mom because..." and have your students finish the sentence starter.
3. Using green finger paint, have the student put a green hand print above the pot.
4. Using finger paint, have the student make the petals by making thumb prints on their picture.
5. When it is all dry take a marker and write, "Happy Mother's Day!"'on the top.

Brain Breaks

Recently I discovered this awesome website called Go Noodle. This site is full of *commercial free* brain breaks! You have to sign up, but signing up and the resources you will be able to access when you’ve signed up are *free*. How fun! You can search by grade level band, calming brain breaks, etc… Your class also gets to pick a mascot to participate with them. The students LOVE it and it is easy, quick to use! Enjoy! www.GoNoodle.com
